The meta-owned messaging app will automatically block the messages from Unknown Accounts if they exceed a certain volume, protecting users from unwanted or potentially harmful communication, when this option is enabled for users. You can see the preview of the feature in the given image below.
Additionally, this upcoming feature is also designed the improve the device performance by reducing the influx of spam and unwanted messages that can strain the app.
The unknown accounts can flood users with a high volume of spam messages in a short period which can overwhelm the app and impact the device’s performance. But, enabling this feature, will significantly reduce the amount of data the app needs to process.

Currently, WhatsApp uses automated tools to detect and filter malicious actors while protecting privacy including algorithms that identify suspicious activities and bulk messaging.
However, with this new feature, the meta-owned messaging app will offer an additional layer of control to users.
Users can enable this feature to proactively block accounts that exceed a certain volume. By filtering out excessive messages from Unknown Accounts, this feature will help users to minimize the risk of phishing attempts and malicious content which can compromise the device performance and storage.
The ability to block messages from Unknown Accounts is currently under development. The block messages from the Unknown Accounts feature are not ready for beta testers. However, the meta-owned messaging app will soon release the feature to block messages from Unknown Accounts for Android beta users.
